Homework
We don't force students to do homework.
But they still do it.
This might come as a surprise to many people.
We have found that if you put children into a well structured and stimulating environment where they can control their own destiny, they will gravitate towards activities that challenge them as well as what interests them.
It is only children whose personal freedom is compromised that assert themselves by not doing work when they have a chance to. Very often, these children are bored, and will only co-operate by being entertained, or forced.
The candy of entertainment is no replacement for the mental sustenance of personal interest.
